Comment

‘Vram’ appears to be another name for the Augustinian priory of La (Saute-)Cochère, cf. Inventaire Sommaire des Archives de l’Orne, Série H (Alençon 1894), ii, 269 (H3349), where it is identified as ‘St-Sauveur-sur-Dieuge’.  The village of La Cochère stands on the north side of the confluence of the Ure (a tributary of the Orne) and the Dieuge;  the ‘Carte de Cassini’ depicts the priory on the south bank. The witnesses, whose names are garbled below, are William (Longespée), earl of Salisbury, William Marshal, earl of Pembroke, Count Robert of Sées and his brother William, John de Préaux, Ralph l’Abbé, and Richard de Fontenay;  by the hand of Simon, archdeacon of Wells.
