Ioh(anne)s Dei gratia rex Angl(ie) dominus Hibernie dux Norm(annie) Aquit(anie) com(es) Andeg(auie) archiepiscopis, episcopis, abbatibus, com(itibus), bar(onibus), iustic(iis), vic(ecomitibus), prepositis, ministris et omnibus balliuis et fidelibus suis salutem.  Sciatis venerabilem patrem nostrum in Cristo Hub(ertum) Cant' archiepiscopum ad petitionem nostram concessisse Will(elm)o Marescallo comiti de Penbroc et heredibus suis totum ius quod ipse W(illelmus) et antecessores sui habuerunt in terra de Mundeham et quod idem Will(elmu)s et heredes sui terram illam de eodem archiepiscopo et successoribus suis per seruicium quod antecessores eiusdem Will(elm)i inde facere consueuerunt teneant, s(cilicet) per feodum dimid(ie) militis et per cent(um) solidos predicto archiepiscopo et successoribus suis annuatim inde soluendos, ita quod si terra illa de feodo suo per decessum ipsius Will(elm)i aut heredum suorum in custodia aliquando deuenerit, idem archiepiscopus et successores sui plenar(ie) et integre habebunt et tenebunt custodiam terre illius quousque dicti heredes talem habeant etatem quod possint et debeant terram tenere secundum consuetudinem Angl(ie).  Si etiam de terra illa aliquando euenerit quod escaeata fuerit, prefatus archiepiscopus et successores suis terram illam sicut esceatam habebunt et tenebunt ita quod terra illa in manus nostras aut heredum nostrorum nunquam deueniet nec apud nos aut heredes nostros unquam residebit nisi quando contingerit archiepiscopatum Cant' vacare et tunc tantum dum idem archiepiscopatus vacauerit.  Quamcito autem contigerit predicto archiepiscopatui siue in electo siue in archiepiscopo prouideri, statim terra illa ad ipsum vel electum vel archiepiscopum plene et integre reuertetur.  T(estibus) W(illelmo) com(ite) Arundell', W(illelmo) com(ite) de Warenn', W(illelmo) de Breos' et Willelmo fil(io) eius, Gaufrido de Say et Gaufr(ido) fil(io) eius, Thom(a) Basset, Alano Basset, Ric(ard)o de Sanford, Ric(ard)o de Reueriis.  Dat' per manum Hug(onis) de Well' apud Cenom' xv. die Augusti anno regni nostri quarto.

Notification that Hubert archbishop of Canterbury, at the king’s petition, has granted to William Marshal earl of Pembroke the right to the land that William and his ancestors had in South Mundham, and that William is to hold the land from the archbishop by the service that William and his antecessors customarily did therein, namely for half a knight’s fee and 100 shillings to be paid annualy to the archbishop.
